Visiting the Soggy Dollar Bar during the COVID-19 Pandemic

White Bay, Jost van Dyke, BVI – March 2020

What a completely weird and not-so-wonderful time we are living in. We were slowly making our way down the Thorny Path and had finally reached the Virgin Islands. The plan was to spend some time in the Spanish VI, then the USVI, then the BVI on our way to St. Martin and – ultimately – Antigua. While in the BVI the COVID-19 pandemic really hit hard, and the BVI closed all its borders. The number of boats we were seeing out there slowly dwindled down to nothing as people were going home, and locals were staying home.

We abandoned our plans of continuing south and hit the usual places we love in the BVI. It was super surreal being the ONLY people at the Baths on Virgin Gorda! Finally we figured it was time to get back into US waters, just in case there was some lockdown on re-entering the US. For our last stop in the BVI we went to White Bay – a long time favorite. There were 2 other boats in there – yes only 2 – and no one one the beach.

It was fantastic in a macabre sort of way. Check out the video.

Can I get a Painkiller … pleeeeeaaaaasssseeee!
